According to Sgt. Del Routh of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were escorting wounded service members on adaptive bicycles participating in the local leg of the Coastal Carolina tour of The Warrior Ride, a local nonprofit organized in Oak Island for wounded veterans.

According to the Warrior Ride website, the program provides challenging adaptive bicycling and morale building events giving wounded warriors the opportunity to “take pride in the skills they have and redefine their capabilities through accomplishment in an atmosphere of camaraderie and support.”
