Why was the McDonald’s on U.S. 17 near Sunset Beach torn down? It was always busy.

Q. Why was the McDonald’s near Sunset Beach torn down? It was on the corner of U.S. 17 and N.C. 904. It was always busy.

A. The restaurant was too small to handle its current customer base, according to Drew Taylor, director of operations for McAnderson’s, the Wilmington-based franchisee, so the company is rebuilding.

“We’re going to be bigger and better,” Taylor said recently. The new restaurant will include a seating area approximately 50 percent to 60 percent larger than that of the previous facility, he added.

The new Sunset Beach McDonald’s is scheduled to re-open Oct. 31, “if the weather cooperates,” Taylor said.
