Will Wendover Lane next to Big Lots ever have a left and right turn lane?

Q. Will Wendover Lane next to Big Lots ever have a left and right turn lane? This a dangerous spot and gets backed up all the time.

A. There are plans to change the traffic pattern in the area.

In August 2011, the Transportation Advisory Committee for the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization adopted a Market Street Corridor Study.

That study was designed to provide recommendations to improve mobility and safety on Market Street, said Mike Kozlosky, the executive director of the MPO.

The plan would place a median on Market Street from Colonial Drive to Porter’s Neck and would include designated locations for traffic signals.

Market Street in front of Wendover Road would have a median, Kozlosky said. That means Wendover Road would be restricted to right-in, right-out traffic.

It is unclear when Market Street could be changed. The project is currently unfunded.
