Q. What was the occasion on Saturday, July 14, when police cars were escorting motorcycles down U.S. 17 through Hampstead?

A. On July 14, the Pender County Sheriff’ Office escorted motorcycles from New Hanover County to Onslow and back as part of the Special Olympics.

Capt. Billy Sanders said he believes they perform the escort every year, though this was his first year participating.
