Q. I have just read that the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail section from South 17th Street to Wade Park going across College Road, along Waltmoor Road down Bethel to the park will be soon started. What type of construction will it take to complete this segment? How far off the curb will the sidewalk be built? Will the easements be used by the city?

A. The city is planning to ask the community for input about the design of the section before making final plans, said Amy Beatty, the city’s recreation superintendent.

The goal is to have the entire route, from Wade Park to the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge, completed in 2013.

Who’s responsible for maintaining the Cross-City Trail?

When will the city honor the namesake for the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail, and correctly identify the trail on its signage?
