Q. What is the history of the Captain Bills Banquet Facility building? It was last accupied by El Vaquero, but someone told me it was a seafood restaurant before that.
A. John Musser, co-owner of Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill, said the Mussers bought the building in 1982.
They operated it as 220 Seafood, the Rusty Pelican and Musser’s Seafood and Barbecue. El Vaquero operated in that space for about eight years, followed briefly by Los Moja-rras.
The building, Musser said, was originally built in the 1970s to be a Rustler Steak House. But the Rustler didn’t last very long in Wilmington.
