I read the article about backyard burning in New Hanover and Wilmington but would like to know the laws in Brunswick County.

The rules in New Hanover are essentially the same in Brunswick County for the unincorporated areas of the county, according to Scott Garnter, the Brunswick County fire marshal. These rules come from the N.C. Fire Code.

However, Brunswick County also has 19 municipalities and each of these may have some level of burning restrictions over and above what is regulated by the fire code, he said.
