Do any famous or important people live in Holden Beach?

Yes. Movie stars, legislators, and corporate heads have had houses in Holden Beach at one time or another, although they may not live there full-time.

The most notables would probably be Richard Petty, Johnny Walker (the co-founder of Lowes Home Improvement) and Academy-nominated actor Nick Nolte. Nolte played a lawyer from a small town in North Carolina in the 1991 thriller Cape Fear with Robert Di Niro and got his Academy nomination for best actor in the movie Prince of Tides with Barbara Streisand.

Nolte’s Holden Beach home is now on the market for $2.5 million. Here’s a link.

Former N.C. Sen. Bob Shaw, who passed away April 9, had a house at Holden Beach. Former North Lt. Gov. Bob Jordon and current N.C. Sen. Don Vaughan of Greensboro have homes at Holden Beach, says Holden Beach Mayor Alan Holden.

Also, Ron Veenker, a professor emeritus of religion and philosophy at Western Kentucky University used his Holden Beach vacation home to translate a 4,000-year-old Sumerian tablet. The full story can be found here.
