Have there ever been any world records recorded in the Guinness Book for New Hanover County area?

Members of the Wilmington Railroad Museum broke the record for the world's longest model train at the Wilmington Convention Center on April 23, 2011.

Wilmington has spawned some interesting Guinness World Records.

In April 2005, 160 film squibs (bladders containing fake blood for use in movies) were attached to a wet suit worn by a stuntman at Screen Gem Studios in Wilmington. Upon detonation of the squibs only three failed to explode, creating the record for “Most Explosions (squibs) on an Individual,” according to the Guinness Book of World Records website.

In April 2011, the Wilmington Railroad Museum Model Train Committee captured the record for “Longest Model Train,” with its 925-foot-long creation made up of 31-locomotives and 1,563 carriages. The train scale was 1:87.1 HO which translates in actual size to a train 15.27 miles long, according to Guinness.

And finally, in January 2012, Matthew Mark Mason broke the record for “Fastest Time to Shell One Unpricked Boiled Egg.” Mason captured the crown in 5.59 seconds.

You can watch the grinning champ in action – and possibly be motivated to try to break a record yourself – on the Guinness World Record Challengers site by clicking here.

I hold the world record for drinking the fastest pint of Stout. Done at Cape Fear Wine And Beer in 2003 I think…. 0.58 seconds… then Guinness took out that category because people were drinking in an unsafe manor… I can still do it in under a second though…
