Q. Would the DOT consider adding an I-40 exit at Old Blossom Ferry Road to alleviate congestion into Castle Hayne?

A. “With the present transportation demands in that area, we would not consider it at this time,” said Karen Fussell, the Division 3 engineer for the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The idea was not in the DOT’s 2040 plan, she said.

Fussell said it is rare for the DOT to add a new exit to an existing interstate highway.
