No Griffiths are listed as Airlie Road property owners on the New Hanover County database of property owners.

The most prominent black fence on Airlie Road is the one surrounding Airlie Gardens, which is owned by New Hanover County.

Griffith, best known for his TV role as Sheriff Andy Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show,” also starred in the lawyer show “Matlock,” which was filmed from 1993 to 1995 in Wilmington.

The large estate on the north side of Airlie Road, running the length of the hard curve and bordering the Intracoastal Waterway, is also mistaken for Andy Griffith’s estate (has a dark fence also). This estate is owned by the descendants of the Wright Family for which Wrightsville Beach received its name. I’ve been asked this numerous times by visitors when driving along Airlie Road.

Andy Griffith owns a large estate in Manteo, NC. The estate is approximately 15-20 acres and borders the Roanoke/Albemarle Sound between Manteo and Nags Head. You can Google Dogwood Trailer Ct, Manteo, NC and click maps then aerial to see his estate (Southeast side of Dogwood Trailer Court extending from Hwy 64/264 to the water). Look for the only long pier extending into the sound near this address. You will see several houses and one with a circular drive way. According to Dare County tax records these are all a part of his estate (please respect his privacy). You can copy paste the following link if you wish to read more about Mr. Griffith.
