Why aren’t the no-parking signs enforced at Winter Park and Ogden elementary schools?

Parents concerned about parking issues at schools can contact the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office or the Wilmington Police Department. (StarNews file photo)

This question was answered by Sgt. Jerry Brewer, public information officer for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office:

“The deputies assigned to the schools are primarily responsible for the safety of the students and the public. While parking can cause concern, it is certainly preferable that all vehicles park in designated parking spaces. Winter Park is an elementary school which means is does not have a deputy assigned to the school. If the school administration views the parking problem an issue they can certainly contact the sheriff’s office or Wilmington Police Department to assess the problem.”

there has always been a problem with pickup at winter park school…i don’t know what they were thinking when they installed ” no parking ” on both sides of the street. where are parents supposed to wait for their children in a SAFE PLACE ?

Guess it is only a problem downtown were you will get a ticket. It is a good lesson for parents to teach there kids, only obey laws that are convenient for you and ignore the other. Parents remember that when your kid get caught with just a doing something just a little wrong. You set the example for them.
