Where can my daughters and I go freshwater fishing without a boat?

Reader Mike submitted this plea: “I am looking for any places in the Wilmington, Burgaw, etc. (area) for freshwater fishing – prefer area’s that don’t require a boat. I am looking for any private owners that might be willing to let my daughters and I fish. Any help out there?”

If you can offer information about local freshwater fishing holes that don’t require a boat, click on the link below to leave a comment.

Thanks for your help.

The new Smith Creek Park has a 35 acre freshwater lake & you can fish from the banks or from a boat. You do need a fishing license, though.
