Will Holly Acres on Sasspan Drive in Shallotte ever get county sewer?

Brunswick County has a petition process whereby property owners submit a petition requesting sewer service be constructed in their neighborhood to the Board of Commissioners. (StarNews file photo)

Jerry Pierce, Brunswick County public utilities director, said the county “does not have any short-term plans to install a wastewater collection system in this area.”

Sasspan Drive is located off of Pigott Road. The nearest sewer force main to the street is at the intersection of Brick Landing Road and Beach Drive, which is about one mile away, Pierce said.

Pierce said if property owners in the Holly Acres Subdivision area are interested in sewer service in their neighborhood, Brunswick County has a petition process whereby property owners submit a petition requesting sewer service be constructed in their neighborhood to the Board of Commissioners.

“Under the petition process, a ‘Special Assessment District’ would be created and each property owner would have to pay their proportionate share of the total project costs,” he said.

More information on the petition process can be obtained from the Brunswick County Engineering Department, at (910) 253-2500.
