Through wind, rain and maybe even hurricanes, the U.S. Postal Service delivers, although the weather event that recently hit Wilmington might be considered more of a tropical storm.

Either way, mail on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, was delivered across the Cape Fear region, said Mike Donato, a supervisor at the Wilmington main post office on North Front Street.

“The only closed offices were up near New Bern. Everybody else, normal delivery,” Donato said.

“They were closing bridges up there,” Donato said of New Bern. “We were getting transportation from our plant, so it was business as usual in our area.”

Postal carriers in Wilmington are used to braving the elements, Donato said.

“We’ve delivered in bad thunderstorms. There was a little more wind than usual, but carriers are used to delivering in rain and wind,” Donato said.
