Do local fire departments still blow out wells and install pipes for a donation of $100?

New Hanover County Fire Rescue doesn't do well work for donations.

The answer is no, said Donnie Hall, New Hanover County fire chief.

“I am not aware of any fire department offering this service. I have heard of it being done in some rural areas of the state back in the late ’80s or early ’90s, but not anything recently, nor around here,” Hall said.

    Unfortuantely, this is one of the services a small community volunteer fire department would be willing to provide for a small donation, However, with the recent dissolution of the community based volunteer departments in New Hanover County, these departments no longer exist.

    Volunteer departments in my area have done this many time before, and often times for smaller or no donations at all. Since they are all community based, they like helping neighbors….
