Below is a link to the most recent N.C. Department of Transportation map showing I-140 ending in Winnabow near U.S. 17:

Wilmington Bypass – Design Public Hearing Map

Work on the Interstate-140 Wilmington Bypass near U.S. 74/76 and U.S. 17 in Brunswick County was under way in spring 2011.

While the actual construction of the road was more than a year away, the groundwork was being laid for the much-anticipated interstate extension.

Crews were moving in fill material for the road, building up the road bed, and installing storm drain pipes. Bridge work was also getting started.

The so-called “A” section of the bypass is expected to be open to traffic in 2013.

That will leave a a gap in the bypass between U.S. 74/76 in Brunswick and U.S. 421 in New Hanover until the final section is completed. That’s projected to be in 2018.
