In 2002, Gahagan and Bryant Associates Inc. was selected as the engineering firm responsible for the relocation of the Mason Inlet 3,000 feet north of its original location. Since that time, the company has been retained to manage the inlet.

Monitoring of the Mason Inlet is done on a yearly basis to evaluate performance and determine if maintenance is necessary. The most recent study was done in May 2011; the results will be published in August 2011. According to Chris Gibson, Gahagan and Bryant vice president, based on company findings and aerial photographs, the inlet has been maintained and remains within the designated corridor.

The engineering firm also monitors dredging within the area and beach nourishment, implementing the Mason’s Creek dredging and truck haul program that took place from January to March 31, 2011.
