The private boat ramp is deeded to more than 340 property owners near the Trails End boat ramp, said Jim McDaniel, New Hanover County director of parks, gardens and senior resources.
“There had been some contention over the years on whether it was public or private,” said Deputy County Attorney Kemp Burpeau. “Fishermen had used it for a number of decades.”
Homeowners provided the attorney’s office with proof of entitlement to the ramp on their deeds, which they would not need if the ramp was public, Burpeau said.
Partially because there was public water access just down the road, the county felt no need to challenge the deeded rights, Burpeau said.
