Why doesn’t WKXB FM (Jammin 99.9) broadcast a different format on HD2?

Q. Why doesn’t WKXB FM (Jammin 99.9) broadcast a different format on their HD2 Channel? Capital Broadcasting invested in HD here for the station to offer listeners more choice and compete with satellite radio, but local management has not done anything with the channel.

A. Brian Schimmel, market manager for Sunrise Broadcasting LLC, a division of Capitol Broadcasting Co. which operates WKXB and other radio stations in the Wilmington market, had a ready answer.

“There will be a new station, and a new format to Wilmington known as The Breeze, playing a Soft Adult Contemporary mix, on WKXB 99.9 HD2 beginning May 30, 2018,” Schimmel said.

Also on or about that date, Schimmel said that ESPN Wilmington, heard on 101.7FM and AM630, will become available on WKXB 99.9 HD3, “which will provide significantly more coverage than either the 101.7FM or AM630 signal in all directions.”
