The complete question:
Does the NCDOT plan to designate all of the Wilmington bypass as I -140 now since it is completed? The most northern section is still designated as U.S. 17 and the most southern section is designated as N.C. 140.
Both these sections did not meet interstate standards when built but according to the N.C. DOT were to be upgraded to carry the I-140 signs when the entire highway was completed. Do they plan to upgrade those sections now?
And here’s the answer, from N.C. DOT Division Engineer Karen Eason Collette.
The signage work is currently planned to take place under the ongoing I‑140 construction project.
- I-140 designation will be between US 17 in Brunswick to I-40.
- N.C. 140 designation will be between I‑40 and U.S. 17 (Market Street).
- U.S. 17 designation will be on Dawson Street/Wooster Street, Oleander Drive, Military Cutoff Road, and Market Street between U.S. 421 near the Cape Fear Bridge to NC 140.
- U.S. 17 Business designation will be on Third Street and Market Street between U.S. 17-74-76 (Dawson Street/Wooster Street) to U.S. 17 (Military Cutoff Road)
