Is waterfowl hunting allowed in the marshlands between Kure Beach and the river?

Tim Hower

According to Brent Wilson, Coastal EcoRegion Supervisor of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, the area is outside the city municipal boundaries and, according to the county parcel data, it is owned by the federal government as part of the Sunny Point Ammunition Terminal buffer.

The enforcement division area sergeant said people do hunt there, but he suggested people contact Sunny Point to determine specifically where it may be allowed. There are weapons restrictions and off-limit areas. The number for Sunny Point is 910-457-8000.
