Southport City Manager Bruce Oakley said information regarding the Capital Power plant coal ash spill in Southport is available on the city’s website, southportnc.org. He said Capital Power has indicated that anyone with ash on their property should reach out to Mary Munn at Capital Power, mmunn@capitalpower.com. Oakley said from what he’s heard, Capital Power has been responsive in helping with cleanup. Cleanup is in progress and the spill has been reported to the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality Air Quality Division and the Environmental Protection Agency.
