It’s likely for fiber optic cable, according to N.C. Department of Transportation spokesman Brian Rick.
“Orange conduit, typically seen in large spools, is bored underground and is conduit for fiber optic cable or other communication lines,” he said. “One may see the ends of this conduit sticking up out of the ground in places until the work is completed. The area mentioned in the email, Market and Middle Sound Loop, is likely associated with either the upcoming Market (Street) construction project, or with the Publix development on that corner.”
