Q. What’s all coming to the Leland area? At least four sites in the Harris Teeter/Walmart area are under development. (1) next to Harris Teeter shopping center, (2) along U.S. 17 next to Corning Credit Union, (3) on Ploof Road across from the gas station, (4) on U.S. 17 where truck trailers used to park. What stores, restaurants, offices, etc. are coming to fill all the new buildings?
A. AA Self Storage is building an 84,000-square-foot facility adjacent to the Brunswick Forest Veterinary Hospital in The Villages at Brunswick Forest along U.S. 17. It will be complete sometime in August.
A 60-acre shopping center called the Leland Town Center is being planned and constructed in phases near Ploof Road. Chick-fil-A will be the first tenant in the center, which will eventually hold about 250,000 square feet of commercial space. The development will feature both retail and eating establishments, including Aldi and Lidl grocery stores.
Westgate Marketplace is a retail shopping complex project being constructed along New Pointe Boulevard near Walmart. It is comprised of four buildings totaling 32,000 square feet. It will feature 13 proposed retail spaces and an outparcel restaurant. So far, confirmed retailers for Westgate Marketplace include Miyabi Jr. Japanese Express, Charlie Graingers, Cricket Wireless, Complete Coastal Dentistry, Petsense and Ganey, Byrd & Dunn Insurance Group.
In the Waterford commercial area along route 17 next to the Corning Credit Union, Weingarten Realty plans to construct two 10,000-square-foot retail buildings on the parcel between the credit union and Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. Tenants have not been announced yet for the retail spaces.
On U.S. 17 outside Leland town limits, a new State Employees Credit Union is going in where passers-by used to see tractor-trailers parked.

Hi,
I asked if all this was current with our Economic Development planner, he said:
• A 60-acre shopping center called the Leland Town Center is being planned and constructed in phases near Ploof Road. Chick-fil-A will be the first tenant in the center, which will eventually hold about 25,000 square feet of commercial space. (25,000 square feet should be 250,000 square feet.)
• The question regarding what was getting built on the Hwy. 17 where truck trailers previously parked should say:
(This property is located in an unincorporated part of the County. It is a new banking facility getting built by State Employees Credit Union.)
just passing along fyi…
