For mountain bikers, Leland’s Brunswick Nature Park has worked with Cape Fear Sorba to design superior off-road biking experiences for any level.
The park’s beginning “Canebreak,” intermediate “Gator Loop” and advanced “Copperhead” loops were created using mini excavators. Elevation changes and switch backs ensure a good workout. The Sorba blog site maps out each loop.
They total six mtb miles designed to repeat for higher mileage. Additional bike trails are under construction.
For on-road biking, the Brunswick County Pedalers is a group of every level that rides together throughout Southport, Leland and Oak Island mainly in the months of March through October.
On your own, a great site to find bike routes in any county is www.capefearcyclists.org, a local club with good info and routes and Sorba’s site, www.capefearsorba.com.
Map My Ride is another good source.
