Q: Cars are stopping in the middle of Pine Grove Drive to let Municipal Golf Course golfers cross. The intention is good, but there is not crosswalk and no other signage at all. Anyone having to come to a stop in the middle of this busy road behind these good Samaritans is a sitting duck for a rear-end collision and a serious injury or worse. Why isn’t there a signal light? Is it possible to put a “No stopping” sign at this much used crossing?
A: Pine Grove Drive is maintained by the city of Wilmington.
Randall Glazier, signs and markings engineering manager with the city’s Planning, Development and Transportation Department, said there are no designated crosswalks in the area.
Recommendations for action are currently under review by the city’s legal department, Glazier said.
“We are waiting on an interpretation from our legal department,” Glazier said. “Three or four (state) general statutes address crossings.”
