Why does the Carolina Beach Fire Department allow employees to drive their department vehicles home? Does the employee pay for any expense?

Cammie Bellamy

Three members of the Carolina Beach Fire Department are allowed to take their vehicles home: the fire chief, the fire marshal and the rescue captain.

Chief Alan Griffin said those employees do not have to pay expenses for the vehicles. Those employees must have their cars at home for quick access in the event of an emergency.

“Every department in the town has department heads or on-call people that take cars home, from operations to the police department,” Griffin said.
