The N.C. Azalea Festival office reports they have no record in their archives of Dan Blocker at the 1967 Azalea Festival, and in checking with the North Carolina Room at the New Hanover County Public Library, Joe Sheppard could not find Blocker’s name listed for any Azalea Festival.
Sheppard says actor Peter Breck, who starred in the 1960s TV series “The Big Valley,” was the 1967 Azalea Festival Master of Ceremonies. “Little House on the Prairie” and “Bonanza” star, Michael Landon was a celebrity guest in 1963 and 1964. Landon co-starred on “Bonanza” with Dan Blocker from 1959 until Blocker’s death in 1972. Sheppard says Blocker may have visited as a celebrity Azalea Festival guest, but there is no record of it.
