How can I get a sticker that allows me to use the trash disposal site in Surf City?

If you live within the municipal limits of Surf City, you can’t. Incorporated towns in Pender County provide their own trash service, paid by their own taxpayers.

If you live near Surf City – “I live in Surf City,” you tell friends, though your home is outside town limits, including Surf City property on the mainland – you will get a new two-year county sticker in January if your property taxes and solid waste fees are paid and up-to-date, according to Pender County Public Works Director Michael Mack.

Every two years, Pender County issues two solid waste stickers to each eligible household that has paid its annual solid waste fees. Additional stickers are available for $5 each.

The stickers are good for two years and all of them are set to expire next month. Stickers can also be purchased in the middle of the cycle on a pro-rata basis.

But “eligible households” are those in the county but outside the incorporated towns.

According to the Town of Surf City website, town residents should bring large garbage items ineligible for curbside pickup to the transfer station on Transfer Station Road in Hampstead, 910-270-5109, or the Onslow County landfill, 415 Meadowview Road, 910-989-2107.
