Where can packing materials like styrofoam blocks, peanuts, air-filled plastic, bubble wrap, padded envelopes, etc., be recycled or donated?

The best way to recycle most such materials is to repurpose them.

If you don’t have a way to reuse them at home, many shipping centers such as UPS and Mailbox Express will accept donations of these materials. The centers ask that the materials you bring are still in good condition, to ensure they protect the package.

Because padded envelopes have most likely been written on, they are not accepted at the shipping centers for reuse.

But plastic shipping envelopes (poly mailers and poly bubble mailers) can be recycled at traditional recycling locations with other plastics. Paper and plastic padded mailers, however, cannot be accepted because of the difficulty of separating the paper and plastic padding.

Here are a few mailing centers that will gladly accept gently used packing materials.
