Private property owners and businesses can post “no guns” to prevent both open and concealed carry of weapons on their property.
According to Capt. Kenneth Sarvis of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, “If the sign reads ‘no concealed weapons,’ that would not apply to open carry. But if the business owner asked someone that was carrying open carry to leave, they would need to leave at the owner’s request.”
Sarvis added, “If the owner does not want weapons at all, the sign should read ‘no weapons allowed on these premises.’”
