Q. What department is responsible for the upkeep of Carolina Beach Road from Monkey Junction to Snows Cut Bridge and adjoining roads along Myrtle Grove Road? There is debris, trash and just unkempt-looking medians, with trash, overgrown weeds, etc. It is an embarrassment to locals when visitors come.
A. The North Carolina Department of Transportation is in charge of maintenance for U.S. 421 and the section of Carolina Beach Road from Monkey Junction to Snows Cut Bridge.
As for the adjoining roads along Myrtle Grove Road, Gerard Taylor with New Hanover County Maintenance said the sheer number of roads off that primary route means maintenance ownership could fall to the NCDOT’s division office or a private owner.
It is all about how it has been recorded, Taylor said.
He suggests contacting the NCDOT with questions about a certain road. The NCDOT can be reached at 1-877-368-4968.
