What were the bulldozers and surveyors doing recently around the Coast Guard station on River Road?

Ken Little

Q. In June 2014 (the StarNews) reported that there were no future plans for the Coast Guard station on River Road. However, here we are in February 2016 and we see bulldozers moving lots of earth and surveyors working all over the site. Perhaps you can enlighten us on what is happening.

A. There is no current planned construction or work at the River Road Coast Guard facility, said Lt. Lane Monroe, Sector North Carolina command center chief.

“Recent work was related to a group doing an archeological survey,” Munroe said.
