Q. Why is the land being cleared on Castle Hayne road … on the left going toward the stop light in Wrightsboro. Several old farmhouses along with 30+ acres have been completely bulldozed down.

A. The land being cleared is for Hanover Lakes, a residential development that was approved in 2015 to house 231 single-family units.

Sam Burgess, senior planner with the county, said the 30-plus acres are being cleared to make way for the development, which will be built in multiple phases.

Clearing began in late October. He did not have specific details on the timeframe for construction, but he said the first phase of the development will not be complete for a “couple of years.”
