Q. Who can be contacted to have flashing school zone signs erected on Gordon Road to mark the school zone speed limit in front of Eaton Elementary? There are signs and markings in the road but drivers continue to do 45 mph (and faster) through this zone despite the existing signage. I believe the flashing signs would benefit the safety of all traveling on this congested road.
A. According to N.C. DOT Division 3 Traffic Engineer Katie Hite, on state-maintained roadways, school zone flashers are paid for and maintained by the school. A school can request the school zone flashers, she said, and the Department of Transportation would work with them to determine if the flashers would be effective and should be pursued. Hite said price can vary depending on type of flashers and the location.
