Q. I know money has been raised for the repair of the USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial. When is the repair work slated to be started and when is the proposed finish date?

A. Capt. Terry Bragg said that as of mid-January, the Battleships’ Generations Campaign has raised $14.9 million out of a $17 million goal. Officials have also completed design and permitting for the first phase of repairs: a metal cofferdam with will surround the ship and will be topped with a walkway.

Bragg said construction on the dam will start in early- to mid-2016 and will last for a year. Once the dam is complete in 2017, crews can drain the water around the ship and perform necessary repairs.
