The New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s emergency department is
part of a large development that will include medical offices and single
family homes, said Katie Hite, N.C. Department of Transportation Division 3
traffic engineer.
“The left turn lane was constructed in anticipation of this development
when U.S. 17 was widened. It is planned to be opened once the southern
access to the development is built,” Hite said.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center plans to renovate and expand its
main campus emergency department on 17th Street to accommodate an
anticipated increase in patients, hospital officials said earlier this year.
