Well, it’s not a shiny new building, said Julie Wilsey, director of the Wilmington International Airport.
Wilsey said the airport is improving its drainage by adding a system of canals to draw water – and the animals that would be drawn to standing water – away from runways.
“We spend money on infrastructure projects that aren’t glamorous,” she said. “We’re not extending the runway. We’re not building new buildings. But it’s a project that has to be done to keep the airfield functional and safe.”
Wilsey said the drainage project is part of the airport’s overall improvement plan.
