Why are they digging along Covil Farm Road?

Q. What is the purpose for the trench digging and fencing along the sides of Covil Farm Road.

A. The digging you’re seeing along Covil Farm Road is the beginnings of a project to widen and resurface a stretch of the road.

Ken Vafier, planning manager for New Hanover County, said the project is being undertaken by the state Department of Transportation after the county acquired easements from property owners along the road.

A 0.7-mile stretch of Covil Farm Road from Military Cutoff Road to Old Fort Road will be widened and resurfaced, he said.

In addition to the road work, a multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists is proposed to stretch from Ogden Elementary School through Red Cedar Road to Covil Farm Road to a path on Military Cutoff Road.
