Q. The water tower in Arrowhead is being demolished and the process is extremely loud and disruptive. How long will it take to complete the demolition? What is planned for the lot/land after the water tower is removed?
A. The project, to remove a water tower no longer being used, should be done by the end of the month.
Mike McGill, chief communications officer for the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, said there is no plan for the land afterward. 4 Seasons Site and Demo Inc. of Wilmington was awarded an $89,000 contract to demolish the water tank and remove it from the site.
McGill said the utility hand-delivered letters to homes near the site explaining the project. He said CFPUA had received no complaints about the noise as of Monday, but limited the work hours to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to mitigate the impact.
“It can be noisy to conduct demolition on a tank,” he said. “We don’t want to do it after hours when it can be disturbing to the community.”
