Q. Was there ever a motel or hotel in Castle Hayne? If so, what was the name of it?
A. Yes, there was motel in the Castle Hayne area from the 1940’s until the early 1980’s. The Rainbow Motel was built and run by the Bradshaw family. It was located at 5718 Castle Hayne Road, at the intersection of Castle Hayne Road and Holly Shelter Road.
By the late 1970’s the motel had gone downhill. A lot of the land in the area was condemned and declare uninhabitable because of leaking underground tanks.
The area has been cleaned up and a commercial corridor is developing there. The Kangaroo store sits on the site of the old Rainbow Motel.
