Q. How is the 2-year-old toddler from Pender County doing who was attacked by a dog while playing in his backyard. His story appeared on the local news stations as did pictures of him hospitalized as a result of the attack. He has been in my thoughts and prayers?
A. A 2-year-old Pender County boy mauled by a dog in February 2014 has recovered from his injuries, according to Lt. Keith Ramsey with Pender County Animal Control.
On Feb. 19, 2014, the toddler was in his front yard at 153 Sportsman Drive in Burgaw when a witness reported seeing a pit bull with the boy in its mouth, “slinging him around.”
At the direction of the N.C. State Veterinary Office, the male and female pit bulls were put to death and owner Wesley Lewis, of 70 Sportsman Drive, was cited for two counts each of animals running at large, no identification tags displayed, no rabies tags displayed and no proof of vaccination.
