In the city, solid waste crews collect the Christmas trees and take them to Diversified Biomass on Sunnyvale Drive. Once there, the trees are ground up and sold locally as mulch.
Remove decorations and lights from the trees and put them at curbside with any other vegetative debris on your normal service day for city yard waste crews to recycle. Do not place the tree near any storm drains, and be sure it does not block access to any sidewalks.
Remember to have all items curbside by 7:30 a.m. on your normal pickup day for service.
For more information, call the City Solid Waste Division at (910) 341-7875 or visit the Solid Waste page for more information.
New Hanover County residents can also drop off their used Christmas trees for recycling through January at one of the following locations:
- Home Depot, 5511 Carolina Beach Road (Monkey Junction)
- Ogden Park (near the baseball fields), 225 Ogden Park Drive
- New Hanover County Landfill, 5210 US Highway 421 North
