Q. Is there any way to get email alerts when there have been an auto accidents between Wilmington and Leland – the area now under construction?

A. In short, no. You can’t get email alerts, but you can get the information about traffic on the causeway and elsewhere by telephone, on the Web or via Twitter.

Brian R. Rick, communications officer for Divisions 2 & 3 of the N.C. Department of Transportation, provided this answer:

The 511 system provides up-to-date information on traffic.

For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit the NCDOT traffic website or follow NCDOT on Twitter.

Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website. To access it, type “m.ncdot.gov” into the browser of your smartphone. Then, bookmark it to save for future reference.

You can also join the Leland NC Traffic Reports page on Facebook. Find it by searching for “Leland NC Traffic Reports” on Facebook.
