BB&T has given out more than $1.5 million through its BB&T Football Jamboree Scholarships. StarNews file photo
Q. How are BB&T scholarships awarded? Are players chosen or do they have to apply?
A. Normally, a panel at each individual school reviews potential candidates for a BB&T Football Jamboree Scholarship, BB&T Commercial Baking Vice President Andrew Cooke said. The players are considered by the panel, which normally consists of the head football coach, athletic director, a guidance counselor and the school’s principal. Each school decides how it wants to fill a pool of candidates, either by application, academic standards or coach’s choice.
To date, BB&T has given out more than $1.5 million over 27 years to schools for scholarships. This year, 20 scholarships were given out, two at each school.
