How do officers know you’ve paid your parking fee by phone, when it doesn’t show on the meter?

Q. When using “Pay by Phone” to pay for parking in Downtown Wilmington, how do the parking enforcement officers know you’re not in violation when they check meters, as the payment is not visible via the meter?

A. It would make a better story, but no, there is no telepathic parking attendant.

The parking enforcement attendants use handheld units to see who has paid on a specific block.

Although the physical meters do not show the time remaining when you pay by phone, the handheld units can display that information.
