Why are there no designated parking spaces for school resource officers in front of New Hanover High?

Q. Why are there no designated parking spaces for SROs in front of NHHS? They need to be prominently visible to deter ne’er do wells. How do we make this happen?

A.  New Hanover County Schools doesn’t control the parking spots in front of or behind New Hanover High School, said schools spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum. Those are controlled by the city of Wilmington. But Sheriff’s Office school resource officers do try to park in visible places.

“Often, the SROs will park in front of Brogden (Hall, New Hanover High’s gym) just over the sidewalk,” Quattlebaum said. “They try to do this whenever they can.”
