Q. Does the city have any plans to resurface Water Street from Market Street north to Nutt Street? This is a major downtown street that is in really poor condition.
A. Yes, the city has plans to resurface several blocks of North Water Street. The first phase will be North Water Street from Market Street to Princess Street, said Richard King, the city’s public services director. The second phase will continue resurfacing North Water from Princess Street to just north of Walnut Street, King said. The work will happen in connection with planned Rivefront Park improvements and in conjunction with Cape Fear Public Utility Authority work.
The city’s work is on hold until after the U.S. Coast Guard’s planned overhaul of it bulkhead in the area, which is tentatively set for 2015.
