What is latest on the Davina Buff Jones murder re-investigation?

The investigation is still ongoing, but could end soon, District Attorney Jon David said Monday.

David reopened the investigation of the death of Bald Head Island Police Officer Davina Buff Jones in May 2011. She was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the back of the head in 1999. Investigators ruled Jones’ death a suicide. But her family contends she was murdered, and subsequent civil actions have backed up that assertion, leading critics to believe there may have been a rush to judgment on the part of investigators working the case.

“I expect to make a public announcement about this case soon, however I will certainly speak to other stakeholders first, including officer Jones’ family,” David said.

UPDATE: On Dec. 17, 2013, David said that after an independent investigation, the cause of death would be reclassified as undetermined, and that the case would remain open.

I will be surprised if Jon David confirms the suicide theory was correct. I spent time exploring this case myself and discussing it with Davina’s family, and visiting the murder site, in preparation for a book I intended to write (one of the family members later chose to accomplish this task), and I have been convinced, because of overwhelming evidence, that she was killed by criminals involved in drug dealing on Baldhead, and this was covered up by the powers-that-be because Baldhead markets itself as a safe haven from the rest of the world, not a place were nefarious drug-related activities are going on.

I hope the cloud over the Buff family dissipates soon and Davina’s good name is restored.

I know for certain that Davina did not commit suicide. I grew up with her and know the family very well and I have never been so sure about something in my life. She was murdered because she was uncovering drug trafficing on Bald Head Island and they wanted her gone. Loy, Harriett, Tanya and Beverly justice will be served and Davina precious name will be cleared. Will be praying for great news.
